Ms Wong Sau Chun: Tai Chi Volunteer Teacher

Since her arrival in London in 1969, Ms Wong Sau Chun has taken an active role in community work. She is an experienced and well-organised homemaker as well as a very diligent worker.

Ms Wong is well aware of the beneficial effects of Tai Chi exercise in strengthening one’s body and improving one’s health. Wishing that everyone would enjoy good and robust health, she has run Tai Chi classes at the centre since 1999 on every Monday and Friday on a voluntary basis.

Over the years, undeterred by unfavourable weather or other difficulties, Ms Wong tirelessly made the long journey to the centre to hold Tai Chi classes. As a result, many members have enjoyed the benefits gained from the exercise. She is a humble person. She never takes on the formal air of an instructor although she addresses herself as ‘a Senior Sister teacher Sichair’. Being an easygoing and helpful person, she is always ready to share with others any benefits or advantages. She never thinks of working for her own benefits or advantages.

On every festive occasion, she always donates fruits and delicious food. Now and then, she bakes her delicious and healthy pastry cake ‘lo por pan’ for other members’ enjoyment. Apart from being the Tai Chi volunteer teacher, Ms Wong has also become one of the volunteers in the Orchid Befriending Project for the Elders in recent years.
